Who are the Tallest in Men’s Gymnastics? Part 3
Posted on 08 January 2010 by admin
It’s time for StickItMedia’s follow-up to our previous articles about the tallest athletes in men’s gymnastics. Sadly, our all-time favorite, Oklahoma’s Russ Czeschin, has graduated. Czeschin was a four-time All-American on floor (3 times) and vault (1 time), and he stretched the tape measure to a whopping 6′3". The NCAA’s tallest man mantle has been passed down to Penn State senior Matt Greenfield, who tops out at 6′2". Greenfield is an All-American Scholar Athlete, and is primed to do some great things in his final season.
Illinois senior Luke Stannard, who measures in at 6′1", was the 2009 Big 10 pommel horse champion. More impressively, he topped off his season by winning the U.S. Championships title on pommel horse. Stannard and teammate Daniel Ribeiro, the 2009 NCAA pommel horse champ, easily make the Illini the NCAA’s best on that event.
Traditionally, male gymnasts tend to be on the relatively diminutive side, at least in terms of height. But make no mistake, there is plenty of room for taller athletes, especially those who crack the six-foot barrier. Not all schools publish the height and weight of their gymnasts, but from the available information we were able to glean, here is the current list of six-footers now competing in college gymnastics:
Arizona State:
- Riley Barclay - 6′1" Sophomore
- Jacob Romanoski - 6′2" Senior
- Michael Takhtay - 6′1" Sophomore
Cal:
- Nic Blair - 6′0" Sophomore
Illinois:
- Luke Stannard - 6′1" Senior
Iowa:
- Ben Ketelsen - 6′0" Junior
Nebraska:
- David Jacobs - 6′0" Sophomore
Ohio State:
- Neil Zyburt - 6′1" Freshman
Oklahoma:
- Jeremy Adams - 6′2" Freshman
Penn State:
- Matt Greenfield - 6′2" Senior
Stanford:

If you know of any other six-footers in the collegiate or club ranks, please let us know!
