U.S. Men’s Gymnastics World Team is Finalized
Posted on 13 September 2009 by admin
The World Team camp concluded on Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, and the official squad was announced. Oklahoma freshman Jake Dalton and former Illinois All-American Wes Haagensen were named as replacements for David Sender and Sasha Artemev. Sender, of course, is now enrolled in vet school at Illinois and Artemev has not quite recovered from two back fractures. Illinois junior Daniel Ribeiro, an alternate, was also at the camp, but is recovering from the flu and wasn’t at full strength.
The U.S. squad is quite young, but is anchored by Olympic veteran Jonathan Horton. Former or current Oklahoma gymnasts represent one half of the team (Horton, Dalton and Steven Legendre), and a third of the team is still in their teens (Leyva and Dalton). It will be fun to watch these guys compete next month.
Here is the complete squad and the events on which they will compete:
- Jonathan Horton – All-around
- Tim McNeill – All-around
- Danell Leyva – Parallel bars & high bar
- Steven Legendre – Floor
- Jake Dalton – Vault
- Wes Haagensen – Pommel horse & rings
