Uchimura: Someone to Watch For Men’s All-Around 2012

Posted on 15 August 2008 by admin

Kohei Uchimura, 19, of Japan, hoped for a medal in the Olympic All-Around competition, but was surprised when he actually did win silver.  After tumbling from the pommel horse twice, he may have felt nothing could have made up his score deficit.  Yet his high bar routine was beautiful to watch, and he really is a clean all-arounder.

He’s not resting on his silver, either.  He intends to keep being an Olympic generalist.

“I want to stick to the six components. From now on, I want to lead Japan’s gymnastics,” Uchimura says.

We think he has the confidence along with the skills to do so, too.
