The End of the “10”

Most of the men’s teams were lost during the era of the 10.0. The naïve interpretation of this picture is that open ended scoring actually halted the decline! The more likely answer is that the numbers used in the scoring have no relationship at all to decline in the number of men’s NCAA gymnastics teams.

    By giving up the 10.00 we lost the iconic symbol that separated us from the rest of the sports. Yes, it was not the factor that brought out sport down but it sure didn’t help. Who will be the next perfect 10? We will never know.
