Team USA struggled against a strong field at today’s 2009 Japan Cup. Steve Legendre fell twice on floor and Sho Nakamori hurt his knee on high bar. Meanwhile, Jonathan Horton had the second highest score on high bar (15.85) and had a nice 16.00 on vault to lead Team USA. However, it was not nearly enough as Team Japan ran away with the team title.
- Japan – 275.50
- China – 273.85
- Germany – 266.80
- Russia – 266.15
- Korea – 260.40
- USA – 258.55
Japan’s Kohei Uchimura dazzled the crowd scoring over 15.00 on the five events in which he competed. The Japanese smoked the field on vault with scores of 16.05 (Uchimura), 16.45 (Koji Yamamuro) and 16.40 (Eiichi Sekiguchi). Germany’s Fabian Hambuchen competed on all six events and scored a blistering 91.25.
The action will conclude tomorrow with the All-Around competition. Steve Legendre and Danell Leyva will represent Team USA.

It was a 5-3-3 format. Not sure… he was added to the team only about 2 weeks ago.
