True to form, USAG is spreading the wealth when doling out international assignments. USAG announced the other day that Sasha Artemev, Alex Buscaglia and Tim Gentry will be competing at the 2009 Toyota International Gymnastics Competition in Toyota City, Japan (December 12-13). This will be Artemev’s first competition since the ’08 Beijing Olympics. Some pretty serious competitors are on roster, such as Kohei Uchimura, Kaz Tanaka, Krisztian Berki, Zhang Hongtao, Wang Guangyan, Yan Mingyong and Prashanth Sellathurai. Stanford’s Buscaglia and Gentry will get a nice eye-opener before the 2010 NCAA season starts, and will be very competitive.
It will be fun to see how Artemev stacks up against Hongtao and Berki on pommel horse. The next big meet for the American men will be the 2010 Winter Cup/Blackjack in Las Vegas Feb. 3-7.
