Region 5 Men’s Gymnastics Website Maintains Updated Rankings

The Region 5 Men’s Gymnastics website, maintained by Sonja Rupe, has a constantly updated list of rankings of the entire region’s individual results. Not only that, but the site also maintains a historical archive of most individual scores dating back to 2002. The archive is searchable by name, team, meet and year. There are currently a total of 37,573 individual records in the database!
The website is easily the top regional website for men’s club gymnastics. How nice it would be to have such an archive for the entire country! Meet scores are the results of countless days of hard work in the gym. Men’s club gymnasts deserve to have a place to go to check out past scores and to compare their scores to competitors from all over the country. It would be a valuable tool for college coaches to track the progress of their recruits, and to evaluate levels of progression for the athletes over the years.

While we’re at it, we would like to make another plea for having a centralized archive for men’s club gymnastics results. MeetScoresOnline would be the perfect vehicle for such a valuable service.

That would be great to have a comprehensive regional and national database. Perhaps one person from each region can commit to be the site organizer, and all directors can report or have a contact. I am hoping to get electronic results on a memory stick required after every event so someone in the state can get this done. Too many meet organizers just sit on the database from a meet, and there it dies. I realize that everyone has other things going on, but getting this done at the end of each meet would be the perfect time, when it is available. Some simple method to get all results on line would be great. Looks like Region 5 has the model, how about sharing it with us.

Sonja here from the Region 5 Men’s Gymnastics site….
Well, I’m sad to say that the rankings, etc is no longer on the Region 5 page. It was too much to maintain without help. Tom, there really isn’t that much to share. I dug, begged and pleaded for the gyms in the region to submit their info. Some did without problem or fail…others, not so much. The meet results, if I got lucky they would email them to me…if not, I was spending endless hours digging up that info and entering it into an excel spreadsheet to upload to an Access database. In the end, it got to be too much and I have discontinued doing that.
I agree… it would have been neat to see the whole country get online with my idea, but it just never got the backing it needed. Thanks to Stick It Media for letting people know about it though… :)
I am still the webmaster, I just don’t have that feature available anymore. Good luck to everyone… hopefully, someday it will become a more viable idea. :)
