Three major Junior events on the world stage await our Junior gymnasts. The Summer Youth Olympic Games will take place October 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Held every two years, the Japan Junior International competition is scheduled for 2017 and 2019. The Japan Junior event is perhaps the top world Junior competition. Gymnasts who will be age-eligible for these upcoming meets are hopefully now being identified to start preparing to be in the running to represent the United States.
Planning now for future success is what will give Team USA a legitimate shot of winning at these events. These are the gymnasts who will likely be representing our country in 2024 (Los Angeles, we hope!). Early planning, motivation and promotion will enable these boys to identify the skills they must master to compete with the very best in the world. The Junior program is our Olympic pipeline and our gymnasts deserve to have the best guidance and resources to optimize their chances for victory. Now is the time to start that process.
Two important positions remain to be filled at the U.S. Olympic Training Center — Head Coach and High Performance Director. To date, it’s anybody’s guess as to when these jobs will be filled. The search committee has a tough job to think outside the box for two individuals who will shape our men’s program for years to come. Hard-core gym fans have their fingers crossed for two dynamic picks.
