Men’s Club Gymnast Presten Ellsworth Signs With Oklahoma

Posted on 14 April 2010 by admin

After initially signing with Nebraska last fall, WOGA’s Presten Ellsworth signed a national letter of intent today with Oklahoma.  A paperwork snafu scuttled the deal with Nebraska, which led to Ellsworth’s deal with the Sooners.  Coached by Sergei Pakanich, the six-time Region 3 All-Star and former Junior National Team member offers Oklahoma some sterling credentials.  Most recently, Ellsworth posted an 84.30 to place 3rd AA at the Region 3 Championships.  Here are a few highlights of Ellsworth’s club career.

  • 2009 – 11th AA and 3rd on floor at JO Nationals; 6th on rings at VISAs
  • 2008 – 7th AA at JO Nationals and VISAs (Level 10 14-15); 20th AA Veronin Cup (Moscow)

The signing of Ellsworth provides Oklahoma with added depth and great long-term potential.  The Sooners lose only Corey English after this season and will undoubtedly be an NCAA title favorite next year.  But first, Ellsworth has some unfinished club business to attend to, as he will be gunning for a high all-around finish next month at JO Nationals.  Age ineligible to compete as a Junior at the VISA U.S. Championships, Ellsworth will move on to the National Qualifier in July where he hopes to qualify in the Senior Division.
