Malone, Guimaraes & Penev Lead new NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Signing Class

Posted on 08 November 2017 by admin

Brody Malone, Vitaliy Guimaraes and Kevin Penev lead a strong recruiting class of ’18 signees for NCAA Men’s Gymnastics.  All three gymnasts are current Junior National Team members.  Stanford landed this year’s top recruiting prize by signing Malone, the 2018 U.S. Junior AA champion (age 17-18).  The Cardinal have four signees, including Ian Gunther, who placed 10th AA (17-18) at P&Gs.  Illinois signed six gymnasts, including top signee Michael Fletcher, a top-10 P&G AA finisher and Clay Stephens (Australia Sr. National Team).  Oklahoma inked Guimaraes, runner-up to Malone at the U.S. Championships, to add to their talented squad.  For good measure, they also signed Spencer Goodell and Morgan Seyler, a pair of top-10 AA finishers at P&Gs.  Coming off a strong signing class last year, Michigan will add Penev to the roster.  Penev competed Day 2 at the U.S. Championships, earning a 6th-place finish on FX.  He and Malone recently represented Team USA at the Japan Junior International competition.

Two current Canadian Junior National Team members will join the NCAA ranks in ’18-’19 — Jesse Tyndall (Ohio State) and Darren Wong (Cal).  Tyndall is the brother of Wyatt (Penn State) and Mitch (Nebraska).

This year’s early signing period is November 8 through November 15.  We will continue to add to our annual list of new recruits as we receive information.  This is not an official list, and is subject to change.  Though recruits are free to announce before Signing Day via social media, schools have to receive all signed paperwork before they make official announcements.  Thanks to the many gymnasts and gym parents for contributing signing information!  We’ll appreciate any new additions, so please feel free to send us a DM… @StickItMedia or via Facebook

Illinois alumnus Logan Bradley weighed-in with his top 15 recruits and top 5 team signing classes.

Gymnasticsville has ranked who they believe are the top 25 recruits, and they have posted videos of each gymnast.
