Karnes, Hong, Hale & Petrosyan Top Level 8/9 Junior Elite Qualifiers

2016 JO Nationals Level 8 (age 11) champion Joshua Karnes is well on his way to a repeat performance in the 12-year-old division.  Karnes (82.20) posted the highest scores on three events (FX-14.25, SR-14.55, HB-13.20) to lead the Junior Elite field after the first day of competition.  His closest competitors going into Sunday’s technical sequences are Caden Clinton (80.15) and Jayson Flack (77.65).  Clinton was the leading scorer on PH (14.00), while Lucas Daniels topped the field on VT (13.60) and Reece Landsperger had the best score on PB (14.00).  Vahe Petrosyan (78.15) holds a narrow lead in the 11-year-old division over Maxwell Odden (77.60) and Bobby Alessio (77.00).  Top event scorers were Petrosyan (PB-13.40, HB-13.10), Odden (VT-12.65), Alessio (FX-13.45), Toma Murakawa and Ty Jordan (VT-13.15) and Kai Uemura (PH-13.95).

Asher Hong (82.30) is the leader in the JE Level 9 (age 13) division over Ian Lasic-Ellis (80.50) and Fredrick Richard (79.30).  Hong captured the highest scores on four events (FX-14.40, PH-14.90, SR-14.60, PB-14.00) to build up a sizable lead.  Also posting top event scores were Lasic-Ellis (HB-12.95) and Luke McFarland (VT-12.95).  Dallas Hale (82.15) had top event scores on three events (PH-14.30, SR-14.65, PB-14.20) to hold a slim margin over Taylor Burkhart (81.10) and Nicolas Kuebler (80.95) in the 14-year-old division.  Burkhart tallied event-leading scores on FX (14.20) and HB (13.45).  Brandon Nguyen had the other top event score on VT (14.25).

Region 7 won the Level 8 JE Team title, and Region 3 took the Level 9 JE Team crown.  Gymnastics Olympica (Level 8) and WOGA (Level 9) won the JE Club titles.

The JO Division level 8/9 qualifier was held in the morning and afternoon sessions.  The top qualifers were Colin Flores (L8-age 12-76.15), Palmer Wright (L9-age 13-74.35) and Matthew Romalia (77.70).  The level 8/9 JO gymnasts will conclude the competition with the AA and event finals on Sunday.
