Jonathan Horton Aims For Second Olympic Medal

Posted on 18 August 2008 by admin

Jonathan Horton represents the U.S. Men’s Gymnastics Team’s last chance for another medal.  On the last day of competition in the Event Finals, Horton will do his thing on the high bar.  He plans to add some difficulty to his routine to increase his chances against his fellow high bar competitors.

Coming on the heels of Sasha Artemev’s disappointing seventh place finish on pommel horse, Horton would love to bring home an Event Finals medal.  Artemev suffered a heartbreaking fall seconds before the end of his routine, which, up until that fateful moment, had guaranteed him a medal.  Like Sasha, Horton needs to hit his routine, and if he does, he will be on that awards podium.  In the Team Finals, Horton topped off a thrilling routine by sticking his landing.

The USA men were not even favored to win a team medal.  That bronze they all are bringing home proved the cynics wrong. Horton has come through when it counted before, and if he ends up nailing his final routine and getting another medal, it will be sweet chocolate icing on the cake for the U.S. men’s team.
