Is Morgan Hamm Going to Beijing, or Not?

A decision is expected on Monday, 7/28 on whether or not Morgan Hamm will be allowed to make the trip to Beijing. The decision comes on the heels of a warning issued to Hamm after he tested positive for glucocorticosteroid at the VISA Nationals in May. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency issued the warning on July 3.
The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) is scheduled to announce their intentions tomorrow. It is widely assumed that FIG will allow the previous warning to stand, given the overwhelming evidence that Hamm did not use the anti-inflammatory to gain a competitive edge.
Glucocorticosteroid is not a banned substance, and is allowed if the athlete files the proper paperwork to document that the drug is used for therapeutic reasons. Hamm failed to file the paperwork, and hence the reason for all the drama. The U.S. Men’s Gymnastics team is scheduled to depart for Beijing on 7/29.
