Great Local Newspaper Interview with Dominic Morris

Posted on 26 May 2009 by admin

It’s great for the community when local newspapers take the time to interview unique athletes within their circulation area.  More often than not, these papers choose to fill up their sports pages with stories about the local high school quarterback, point guard, pitcher or 100 meter champ.  Well, Mercer Island, WA has a unique athlete, and the Mercer Island Reporter happened to take notice of 2009 Level 10 (14-15) JO National pommel horse champion Dominic Morris.

Gifted freshman high school quarterbacks or point guards may perform great feats,  but how often do they win national championships?  These kids may be among the best at what they do, but they never have a shot to prove they are the best in the country, given the constraints of competition at their level, since these athletes rarely compete outside their own state.  Gymnastics is one of the few sports that allow individual athletes to shine in a bona fide national championship arena.

Dominic was a three-time top 5 Level 9 JO Nationals All-Around finisher, and is a current member of the Junior National Team.  In addition to winning the Level 10 (14-15) pommel horse crown, he finished 8th place in the All-Around.  We’ll see more of Dominic at the 2009 VISA Championships.
