An Amazing Handstand Feat

Posted on 11 December 2008 by admin

Coach Sommer from Gymnastic Bodies has a story about former U.S. Champion Mako Sakamoto’s prowess at doing free-standing handstand pushups on the parallel bars.  Sakamoto, who used to coach Peter Vidmar, punched out 163 full range free-standing handstand pushups in a row at the age of 53…that means dropping down to the shoulders, not the head!

Sakamoto is 60 now, and can still do 75 of these pushups.  Wouldn’t it be fun to see him challenge our current Olympic gymnasts to a contest?  Click here to read a brief interesting bio about Mako.
