2012 Freshman Class a Productive Bunch

2012 Freshman Class a Productive Bunch

This season's crop of freshmen in NCAA men's gymnastics has been quite the productive bunch. Several are nationally ranked in the top 20 and have contributed mightily to their respective programs. Arguably, this is the most productive freshman class in a while, and looking at the pipeline of 2013 and 2014 athletes expected to sign letters of intent, this is looking like a [...more]

Oklahoma Top Scoring Team This Weekend in NCAA Men’s Gymnastics

In a big tri-meet in Berkeley, top-ranked Oklahoma (351.60) over host Cal (349.40) and Stanford (343.70). Good enough to keep their top ranking, the Sooners romped on FX and SR, which was enough to win out. Cal captured event team titles on the other four apparatus, but it wasn't quite enough. OU's Jake Dalton was tops on FX (15.60) and placed 2nd in the AA (86.70). Sooner freshman Dylan Akers made his debut in [...more]

“Tall Gymnast” is No Oxymoron Redux

Time for our annual list of six-footers listed on the rosters of NCAA men's gymnastics teams. While probably an incomplete list, due to the lack of vital statistics provided by various teams, this year's group is the largest so far (16) since we started tracking this four years ago. Air Force's Jared Tomaszewski and Washington's Greg Steward both measure in at [...more]

John Orozco Owns Winter Cup, Posts 91.35 to Best Field

LAS VEGAS -- AT&T actually did me a favor Saturday night. Instead of tweeting some commentary at Winter Cup, poor 3G service enabled me to sit back, relax and watch some interesting men's gymnastics. John Orozco blew me away with his incredibly consistent across-the-board scoring on all six events. Orozco improved his AA score by a full 2 points, thanks to his near perfect [...more]

John Orozco Top Qualifier at Winter Cup Men’s Gymnastics

John Orozco picked up where he left off last October at the World Championships. Orozco is the Day 1 leader at Winter Cup, after a day of many lackluster performances, especially on pommel horse. He needed a 15.45 on his last event (vault) to tie 1st session leader Chris Brooks, and he ended up with a 15.60 to give him 89.35 for the day. Orozco posted top 5 scores on [...more]
