2010 VISA Men’s Gymnastics Qualifier is a Big Deal

Posted on 28 June 2010 by admin

USA Gymnastics recently posted the VISA USA Men’s Qualifier participant list, and it is quite impressive.  Predictably, the list for the Senior Division is especially outstanding.  Heading that list are Sasha Artemev, Joey Hagerty, Danell Leyva, Alexy Bilozertchev, Thomas Kelley, Wes Haagensen, Ryan Lieberman, Josh Dixon, Alex Buscaglia,  Aaron Fortunato, Phil Onorato, Kyson Bunthuwong, Bryan Del Castillo, CJ Maestas, Daniel Ribeiro and Jesse Silverstein.  Current Level 10 (14-15) Junior National Team member Jacob Dastrup is also in the mix.  Leyva, Haagensen, Hagerty and Lieberman are pre-qualified.  The top 21 finishers in this group, plus a few others, will qualify to compete at the 2010 VISA USA Championships in August.  The 2010 Men’s Qualifier will take place July 10 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

The top participants in the Junior Division are Andrew Botto, Kevin Ko, Jake Martin, Sean Melton, Grant Perdue, Alec Robin, Wyatt Aycock, Alex Bubnov, Robert DiRugeris, Daniel Potemski, Michael Strathern and Josh Wilson.  Among this group, the top six finishers will qualify for VISAs.  There are several top gymnasts missing from this list, who won’t be competing for one reason or another.  Jake Martin, Sean Melton, Alec Robin and Wyatt Aycock have already qualified, but are using this meet as a good warm-up.  Their results will not count.

A total of at least 42 gymnasts from each division will be competing at VISAs.  This year’s crop is arguably the one of the best ever assembled.  USA men’s gymnastics is on the rise, and the next two years will be even better.  Next month’s Qualifier is a certified big deal, just as we expected.
