2009 Men’s JO Nationals Suffers From Lack of Coverage
Posted on 04 May 2009 by admin
The 2009 men’s JO Nationals will take place this week (May 7-10) in Cincinnati, OH. Sadly, there will be no televised coverage of this great event. About the only video coverage we’ll be able to access will be whatever anyone happens to post on YouTube. You would think that an event of this magnitude would at least deserve a live webcast. After all, with all the existing technology, a webcast would be cheap and easy to produce. USAG needs to think long and hard about this, because a lot of gym fans and families of gymnasts are suffering because of the lack of coverage.
Anyway, it’s going to be a very fun event, with or without 21st century technology. The action starts on Thursday with the Level 10s going at it all day long. The 14-15 division will be especially interesting. Just who is going to beat John Orozco? This division is jam-packed with a lot of talent. The 16-18 division will be wide open, since Danell Leyva will not be competing.
On Friday, the Level 9s battle it out. Sean Melton will be out to defend his All-Around title, but will have to contend with last year’s runner-up, Allan Bower. Qualifiers from the Thursday/Friday competition will advance to the All-Around Finals on Saturday. The action concludes on Sunday with the Event Finals.
At the very least, we are hoping that the scoring will be live, just like the recent men’s NCAA competition. Let’s hope that a lot of folks end up posting a lot of videos to YouTube.

Just found out - there will be NO live scoring. Results will be posted after each session…hopefully soon after each session.

The meet was registered on MeetScoresOnline yesterday, so there is a chance, depending on how the scorekeeper uploads the scores, that the scores will be updated in real time. Won’t know until tomorrow morning. Either way, it will be cool if folks end up submitting youtube links to MSO.
